Background
The Scientific Method, or at least the the Scientific Method we know today, was created during an era called the Enlightenment. This era was filled with new ideas revolving around philosophy, science, and politics. In the field of science and philosophy, there was the idea of knowledge needing to be backed by factual information and that truth came from observation. These ideas lead to the creation of the Scientific Method.

What is it?
The Scientific Method was a revolutionary new approach to the sciences and thinking in general. There are 6 steps:
Observation The initial observation which makes you ask the question Research Research your observation, to improve and develop the idea into a Hypothesis Hypothesis An "if...then..." statement attempting to explain your question Experiment Experiments are used to gather information additional information to prove or disprove the hypothesis Conclusion Gathering all the information from your experiment(s) to either prove or disprove your hypothesis Share Results Publicise your findings to further research on the topic or on related topics |
